Good piece. I agree with your pursuit and formulation.
I claim to be a postmodern in the tradition of American pragmatism and European phenomenology. But because absolutists and relativists misunderstand, I rather use the word Transmodernist. The t-word acknowledges the great fruits of the Enlightenment and modernity (especially scientific method) but critiques many of its outcomes.
I prefer to say that we substitute absolutes and relativism with relationalism—we see all things, including us, defined by relations interior and exterior. And all beliefs defined by their context of relationships. We pursue truth, equality, and freedom as grounded in our evolutionary developed capacity to think and act through symbols. Language, formulas, images, art, myth and religion. And that occurs by thinking, speaking, and acting with others in whom we recognize their interests, lifestyle, and meanings.
So I believe we are share beliefs about morality in social order and politics.
Thanks.
