Pascal was a mathematician using what we now call game theory. I agree with you when you put the wager in terms of belief in God and religious dogma. But I can save Pascal’s argument by putting it in terms of faith in meaning (hope) over nihilism. There is overwhelming evidence for meaningless (think decline of democracy, ramping up for new wars, and climate change). And there is also equal evidence for hope (think organizations and movements for social justice). What tips the scale for meaning over nihilism is faith ) however we try to express it in beliefs. Without a “yes, we can” faith, nihilism wins.
