This is a good summary of the condition of humanity interacting with our social and physical environment. It seem simple but is not simplistic. The tension between individuality and sociality, one and many, past and future, horizontal and vertical etc, etc is not resolved by either-or thinking to relieve the tension of existence. It is both-and thinking in dialectic and critique to maintain the tension. Which is maintaining and strengthening human existence itself. Moderation is not walking down the tepid middle of extremes but grasping the extremes of the tension and holding them in balance.

But personal and political action to be useful, fruitful, virtuous, and good does require thinking!
